George Friou

Associate Broker

George Friou, a Maine native, loves the outdoors. Whether it’s living off the grid on an island he calls home in Muscongus Bay or sliding down snow covered mountains on skis, he puts his passions to work. As a ski instructor for 19 years and large-boat sailing instructor for 25, George has gained key insights into the unique qualities of coastal and alpine properties.

His passion for real estate started more than 30 years ago when he earned his agent credentials through the University of Maine in Orono. Early in his career, he owned and operated a four-unit building in Bangor, Maine. In subsequent years, his skills in providing services to commercial and residential property and business owners continued to evolve. These cumulative experiences, as well as serving as a residential and commercial contractor on occasion, has given George keen insights into what constitutes viable properties for buyers and what it takes to sell them.

He knows it’s not all about selling! The most important piece of any real estate transaction is the Realtor’s ability to help guide the customer through the entire process. The real work begins after acceptance of the initial offer. Assuring that the legal and ethical pieces come together in a way that satisfies the client’s wishes through a successful closing is the most demanding part of any transaction. It is easy for a client to get tripped up in this critical part of the deal. George has had practical life experiences that will help make this seemingly challenging process run smoothly for all clients.

Other life experiences that make George tick are:

A BS degree in Physics Education from the University of Wisconsin-Madison;

Working with property managers, businesses and residential clients to provide and construct facilities for internet services in Dane and Milwaukee counties in Wisconsin;

Helping construct and deploy internet systems for the two largest housing and small business providers in all types of buildings in Madison Wisconsin (approximately 6000 units);

Marketing and media development work for public television and as an independent producer;

Working with the disabled and elderly; teaching accessible sailing, providing transportation and liaising with doctors and a local law enforcement;

Helping children from families with substance abuse issues to cope with difficult, often life-threatening situations;

Lending a helping hand when ever he can.
